Not Another Mother Runner

REAL MILES, REAL MOM, NO FILTER

Day 57 of 70.

Today was… interesting.

Before I get into today’s workout, I realized I haven’t been giving you much detail about my Gravl workouts. I’ve mostly just been saying, “I did a Gravl workout,” and leaving it at that.

So from here on out, I’ll start sharing a little more about what those workouts actually involve.

And that brings us to an important detail about yesterday:

Yesterday was LEG DAY.

Remember that. It’s going to become important.

Because Apparently I Make Excellent Decisions

After work today, I headed back to the park.

Knowing full well that I had done legs yesterday, I somehow decided that today would be a really good day for a Zone 3 workout.

My plan was to push into Zone 3 for 3-minute intervals, recover, and then repeat.

And surprisingly, I felt pretty good!

When I finished the workout portion, I realized I was close enough to four miles that I figured…

Why not make it an even 4?

I decided I’d simply walk the final mile.

Easy.

My legs felt good.

I felt good.

Life was good.

And then the adrenaline wore off.

Yesterday’s Leg Day Came Back for Revenge

Somewhere during that last mile, every leg exercise I had done yesterday apparently decided it was time to remind me they existed.

All at once.

My legs went from “We’re doing great!” to “We would like to formally resign.”

But I finished the mile.

Four miles complete.

When I finally made it back to my car, I sat there for a few minutes and gave my legs some time to reconsider their life choices before attempting to use them again.

Eventually, I headed off to pick up my son from football.

Everything was fine.

Until we got home.

I opened the car door, stood up and was immediately reminded…

Oh, right. My legs are still jelly. 😂

Lesson Learned… Maybe

Yesterday: Gravl leg day.

Today: Zone 3 intervals followed by four total miles.

Tomorrow?

Perhaps I’ll make decisions based on something other than “I feel pretty good right now.”

No promises.

But that’s another day of pushing myself and another lesson about what my body can handle.

For tonight, I’m done.

It’s time to wind down, give these legs some much-needed recovery, and get ready to do it all again.

Maybe with slightly less jelly.

Day 57 complete. 13 days to go. 💪🩷

Real miles. Real mom. No filter.
