Day 62 of 70.
Today was AMAZING!
Remember yesterday when I said I was doing something a little crazy?
Well, today was race day, and this definitely wasn’t a normal race.
Two friends and I did the Muddy Dash, a 2.5-mile mud run filled with obstacles, muddy trails, questionable water, and a whole lot of laughing.
And I already know one thing:
We’re doing this again next year.
5 AM Came Really Early
My husband and I were up at 5 AM to get ready and head out to pick up my friends.
There was one very important logistical decision we had already made.
There was absolutely NO WAY we were getting covered head to toe in mud and then climbing into our own cars.
So my husband drove us in his Jeep.
He also became our official race-day photographer, getting pictures from whatever parts of the course he could reach.
Marriage is apparently driving three muddy women around at ridiculous hours of the morning and taking pictures while they voluntarily crawl through mud. 😂
And Then We Got Muddy
The Muddy Dash was about 2.5 miles through the woods, but the distance was probably the easiest part.
The trails were muddy.
Very muddy.
At one obstacle, we had to try to swing across a mud puddle.
Notice I said try.
We failed.
Into the mud we went.
There was also a tube slide that dumped us into some of the nastiest-smelling water imaginable, and the water came up around my hips.
I’m not entirely sure what was living in that water.
I don’t want to know.
Then there were muddy hills to climb, tire obstacles, more running, more mud, and plenty of moments where the three of us couldn’t stop laughing.
And somehow…
We finished in about 45 minutes!
Absolutely Worth It
Were we muddy?
Completely.
Are we probably going to be sore?
Definitely.
Did we have an absolute blast?
YES.
There were so many laughs throughout the course that it barely felt like a workout.
And that’s something I’m really starting to appreciate about this whole journey.
Fitness doesn’t always have to mean staring at a treadmill or counting reps.
Sometimes fitness means running through the woods with your friends, falling into a mud pit, sliding into disgusting water, and laughing your ass off while doing it.
This one is officially a must-do again next year.
I even think my husband might join us next time.
We’ll see if he’s still interested after seeing how much mud we brought back to the Jeep.
Because Apparently 2.5 Miles Wasn’t Enough
After the race, we dropped my friends off and switched back into parent mode.
We picked up our son from football practice, grabbed our daughter from home, and headed out for a well-earned steak lunch.
After lunch, we walked around the mall for a while doing some window shopping.
Eventually we made it home, and I was more than ready to call it a day.
My husband, however, still needed to finish his workout.
And he was NOT feeling it.
I know that feeling pretty well.
So I offered to walk with him around the neighborhood.
After everything we’d already done today, we headed back outside and walked another 2.19 miles together.
That brought my intentional miles for the day to about:
4.69 miles.
Not including all the wandering around the mall.
My legs have officially submitted a complaint.
Eight Days Left
Now I’m finally ready to relax.
I’m going to read a little bit of my book and then get some much-needed sleep.
Today wasn’t about breaking a personal record.
It wasn’t about pace.
It wasn’t even really about pushing myself.
It was about having fun while being active.
A year ago, I’m not sure I would have imagined myself waking up at 5 AM excited to run through mud and climb obstacles.
Today?
I loved every ridiculous, muddy second of it.
Day 62 complete. Only 8 days to go. 💪🩷
Real miles. Real mom. No filter.
