Not Another Mother Runner

REAL MILES, REAL MOM, NO FILTER

Day 55 of 70.

First, sorry I missed yesterday’s blog post.

But I didn’t miss the workout.

Yesterday was just one of those days. Nothing catastrophic happened. Everyone was okay. But almost every single thing I planned seemed to go sideways, and by the end of the day, it got to me.

It Started Normally Enough…

I was up at my normal 6 AM, had my coffee, and spent some time reading my book.

My husband was still sleeping, which was fine. We had planned to start our day around 9 AM.

At 9, I tried waking him up.

He wasn’t moving.

So naturally, I may have laid back down myself and accidentally fallen asleep for another 30 minutes.

When I woke up?

He was still sleeping.

Fine. New plan.

I decided to go get my nails done.

At least that should be fun, right?

Apparently Navy Blue Is Teal Now

I wanted my nails done in navy and Carolina blue.

The color going on my nails definitely did NOT look like what I picked.

I mentioned it.

They reassured me.

“It’ll dry much lighter.”

Well…

Here I am with teal nails.

😂

Not exactly what I wanted, but whatever. They’re nails. Life goes on.

When I got home, my husband was finally awake and ready to go. We grabbed something to eat, and while we were eating, I tried putting in our grocery order.

Card declined.

That’s weird.

Try again.

Declined.

Wonderful.

Surprise! You Need a New Debit Card

Before we could do anything else, we had to make an unexpected trip to the bank.

For some reason, my card had been deactivated, and I needed a new one.

If you’ve ever had to replace a debit card, you already know the fun I’m about to have over the next couple of weeks.

Every account.

Every subscription.

Every app.

Every place that has that card saved.

Can’t wait.

But whatever. We handled it.

Now it was FINALLY time to hit the trail and get my workout in.

This day was about to turn around.

Right?

Nope.

We got to the park and discovered they were preparing for a triathlon, so the trails were off-limits for the weekend.

At this point, the universe was becoming a little too committed to the joke.

But we weren’t giving up.

My husband opened AllTrails and found another trail about 30 minutes away.

Fine.

LET’S GO!

I was ready to get this workout started.

We drove all the way there and pulled in…

…to find what seemed like 40 horses getting ready to hit the trail.

Apparently this particular trail is also very popular with the local horse community.

At that point?

We surrendered. 😂

Fine. We’ll Walk the Track.

We headed back home and went to the high school track.

Nothing exciting.

No beautiful trail.

No big hiking adventure.

Just us walking around a track.

But you know what?

I got four miles done.

After everything that happened, I still got my workout in.

And honestly, that should have been the end of the story.

Except apparently this day had one more change of plans waiting for me.

The One That Finally Got Me

We were supposed to finish the evening having dinner with some friends.

When we got home, they texted us to let us know they needed to cancel. They’d had a rough day themselves and had an early morning ahead of them.

And that’s 100% okay.

I completely understood.

But emotionally?

That was the thing that finally pushed me over the edge.

It wasn’t dinner being canceled.

It wasn’t the teal nails.

It wasn’t my debit card.

It wasn’t the closed trail.

It wasn’t the army of horses.

It was all of it.

Every plan I had made for the day had changed.

And suddenly I was just sad.

Some Days Just Suck

One thing I promised myself when I started this blog was that I wasn’t only going to share the good days.

Because this journey isn’t just personal bests, beautiful hikes, weight loss, and workouts that make me feel unstoppable.

Sometimes you have a crappy day.

Sometimes nothing goes according to plan.

Sometimes something small happens at the end of the day and suddenly you’re upset about everything that happened before it.

And that’s okay.

What matters is what happens next.

Yesterday didn’t go the way I wanted.

But I still walked four miles.

I still completed Day 55.

And when I woke up today, yesterday was over.

We made new plans.

We’re moving forward.

And you know what?

Today is going to be a good day. 🩷

Day 55 complete. 15 days to go.

Real miles. Real mom. No filter.
