Day 54 of 70.
Today was another push-myself kind of day.
After falling short of my goal of running a sub-three-hour half marathon the other day, I wanted a win.
Don’t get me wrong, taking 20 minutes off my previous half marathon time was a huge accomplishment. But I had set that sub-three goal, and when I didn’t hit it, I was disappointed.
So today I decided to chase another goal.
I was going after my 5K personal best.
Time to See What I Could Do
The morning started with a good breakfast, and then it was time to head to the park.
My goal was simple:
Run the fastest 5K I’ve ever run.
I didn’t beat my personal best for my fastest individual mile, but honestly, I don’t even care.
Because I absolutely CRUSHED my 5K PB!
My previous personal best from July was:
46:49
Today’s 5K:
38:23!
That’s an improvement of more than 8 minutes!
When I saw that time, I was beyond excited.
This is exactly why I’m doing this challenge.
Some days you push yourself and don’t quite reach the goal you had in mind. Other days, all that work you’ve been putting in suddenly shows itself.
Today was one of those days.
Sometimes You Need to See the Progress
It’s easy to get caught up in the goals I haven’t reached yet.
I still want that sub-three-hour half marathon.
I still want to get stronger.
I still have a lot of things I’m working toward.
But comparing today’s 5K to where I was just last month gave me something I really needed:
Proof that I’m improving.
In July, 46:49 was my best.
Today, I ran it in 38:23.
That’s not a tiny improvement.
That’s progress I can actually see.
And I’m damn proud of it.
Then It Was Time to Relax
After that run, I came home and did something my body probably appreciated very much.
I relaxed with a good book.
Eventually the kids came home from school and our evening plans started taking shape.
My daughter wanted to take a friend to one of those pottery places where you pick out an item, paint it, and then they fire it in a kiln.
The boys headed off to the high school football game, so it became a girls’ adventure for us.
We painted pottery, had some fun trying something different, and finished the night with dinner at Texas Roadhouse.
Not a bad way to celebrate a new personal best!
Tomorrow, We Push Again
Now it’s time to relax and get ready for tomorrow.
Because apparently after beating a personal best by more than eight minutes, the reasonable thing to do is…
Push myself again. 😂
But tonight I’m enjoying this one.
46:49 → 38:23
That’s a number I’m going to remember.
The sub-three-hour half marathon will have its day.
Today belonged to the 5K.
Day 54 complete. 16 days to go. 💪🩷
Real miles. Real mom. No filter.
