Day 63 of 70.
Today was another long one.
I worked a later shift at a hiring event all day, and by the time I got home, it would have been really easy to relax and tell myself I’d done enough for one day.
Instead, I walked through the door, changed into my workout clothes, and decided:
I’m going to PR my mile.
Apparently after 63 days, this is the kind of thing I voluntarily do now.
Let’s Go Get That PR
I hopped on the treadmill and took off.
At first?
I felt GREAT.
I actually started thinking I might finish the mile in under 11 minutes.
Then reality showed up.
That pace catches up with you QUICK.
Suddenly, I could feel my heart beating through my teeth. 😂
I wanted to slow down.
I wanted to stop.
And there was definitely a point where my brain started trying to convince me that what I’d already done was good enough.
But I knew something else too.
If I stopped, I’d be disappointed in myself.
So I kept going.
I stopped thinking about how uncomfortable I was and started thinking about the goal.
Just keep moving.
Keep pushing.
Finish the mile.
And I did.
47 Seconds Faster!
I didn’t get that sub-11-minute mile today.
But I did something I’m incredibly proud of.
I took 47 seconds off my mile time from just one month ago.
47 seconds.
That’s when something hit me.
Sometimes I’m so focused on how far I still have to go that I completely forget to look back and see how far I’ve already come.
There’s always another goal.
Run faster.
Go farther.
Get stronger.
Beat another PR.
And having those goals is good. They’re what keep me pushing forward.
But every once in a while, I need to stop and remember that the version of me from a month ago would have loved to run the mile I just ran today.
That’s progress.
And Then It Was Time for Gravl
Apparently trying to make my heart escape through my teeth wasn’t enough exercise for the evening, so after my mile I moved on to my Gravl strength workout.
Today’s workout was:
Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift – 15 lbs
- 20 reps
- 20 reps
- 12 reps
- 11 reps
Air Squats
- 30 reps
- 30 reps
- 30 reps
Yes, that’s 90 squats. My legs would like it entered into the official record that they objected.
Kettlebell Alternating Row – 20 lbs
- 14 reps
- 13 reps
- 12 reps
Hammer Curls – 10 lbs
- 12 reps
- 11 reps
- 10 reps
Kettlebell Farmer’s Carry – 15 lbs
- 15 yards
- 15 yards
- 15 yards
One hard mile followed by a solid strength workout.
Day 63 was officially done.
Seven Days Left… But I’m Already Planning What’s Next
I only have seven days left in this 70-day challenge.
And because I’ve apparently developed a questionable relationship with doing difficult things, I’ve already planned my next challenge.
When I say I want to do hard things, I mean it.
So naturally, I added the exercise I hate more than anything else.
What is it?
I’ll give you a hint…
It rhymes with slurpees. 🤣🫣
That’s a problem for future Shannon.
Tonight, I’m celebrating another PR.
47 seconds faster than one month ago.
Sometimes you have to stop looking at the distance ahead and turn around for a second.
You might be surprised by just how far you’ve already traveled.
Day 63 complete. 7 days to go. 💪🩷
Real miles. Real mom. No filter.
