Not Another Mother Runner

REAL MILES, REAL MOM, NO FILTER

Day 67 of 70.

Okay guys, real talk.

I have not felt like working out these last few days.

I just can’t seem to get into the groove.

Between the crazy busy days, work, family, running from one thing to the next, and somehow trying to squeeze a workout into the middle of all of it…

It’s been a lot.

And I could sit here and tell you:

“Oh yeah, a 70-day challenge! It’s not that hard. Anyone can do it!”

But you know what?

This damn thing is hard.

I’m Tired

There are days when you wake up, look at everything ahead of you, and already know you’re not going to stop moving until your head finally hits the pillow.

Work.

Kids.

Appointments.

Football.

Dinner.

Errands.

The workout.

Everything else life decides to throw at you because apparently the schedule wasn’t ridiculous enough already.

Then you finally get to bed knowing there are still things you didn’t finish that are just going to become tomorrow’s problem.

And somewhere in all of that, I’m supposed to find the motivation to work out for 45 minutes.

These last few days?

That motivation hasn’t been there.

Maybe That’s Actually the Challenge

I’m starting to realize something.

When I began this challenge, I thought the hard part would be the physical stuff.

Working out every day.

Doing the sit-ups.

Staying in a calorie deficit.

Losing weight.

Getting stronger.

Those things absolutely are part of it.

But now, with only a few days left, I’m realizing that the hardest part has been something I wasn’t really prepared for.

The mental game.

It’s getting up and doing the workout when you’re excited about it.

But it’s also getting up and doing it when you’re tired.

When you’re frustrated.

When you’re busy.

When you’re sore.

When you’ve had a bad day.

When you’d rather read a book.

When you’re just completely over the whole damn thing.

That’s where this challenge gets hard.

So I Ran

Today I had some frustration I needed to get out.

So I started with a 1-mile run.

No big distance goal.

No PR attempt.

I just ran.

And honestly, I needed it.

After that mile, though, I knew I needed something different.

I’ve been doing a lot of running, walking, hiking, treadmill work, and Gravl workouts lately, and I just wasn’t feeling another round of the same thing.

I needed a change of pace.

So I opened the Beachbody app, found a workout, and got after it.

Different exercises.

Different format.

Something new.

And that was apparently exactly what my brain needed today.

I Wasn’t Ready for This Part

I’m not going to pretend I’ve suddenly found my motivation again and tomorrow I’m going to jump out of bed excited to exercise.

Maybe I will.

Maybe I’ll look at my workout clothes and hate them. 😂

But I’ve made it through 67 days.

And these last few days have taught me something that might be more important than any PR I’ve set during this challenge.

You don’t have to feel motivated to keep moving forward.

Sometimes you’re going to love the process.

Sometimes you’re going to hate it.

Sometimes the accomplishment isn’t running farther or getting faster.

Sometimes the accomplishment is simply being able to say:

I really didn’t want to do this today, but I did it anyway.

And today, that’s enough.

Another day in the books.

Day 67 complete. Only 3 days to go. 💪🩷

Real miles. Real mom. No filter.
